Being the victim of a break and enter or burglary is a very scary and dramatic experience for you and your family. When someone enters your home without your permission you need to take the proper steps to report the crime.
- If you detect your home has been broken into while you were away it is best to not enter the home. Use a neighbours phone or your cell phone to dial 911 or if 911 is not available in your area, dial the number for your local police. In addition to putting yourself at risk, entering the home and touching any items may also destroy key evidence that the police will need to locate and prosecute the burglar.
- The police will ask you to make a list of items that are missing from your home. Write a thorough description of each item, including the approximate value. Include any serial numbers or unique identifying marks on the list. Keep a copy of the list to give to your broker.
- Call your Gamble Insurance broker when the police have left and your broker will advise on the best way to proceed on making a claim and making sure any damages to your home are repaired immediately. After hours call the 24 hour Gamble Insurance Emergency Line at 888-224-5677.
